Safety Tips
Chem is designed to be an inclusive, fun, and positive space for people to meet, but bad actors can always find their way in. Remember that you are your own last line of defense and always put your own safety first, online or in-person. We can't guarantee your safety, but following these tips will help you stay aware of any threats.
Be careful with personal information
If you wouldn't be comfortable with it being public, don't share it with a stranger. No one you meet online needs to know your address, work schedule, or anything that could be used to identify or locate you. Keep your conversations fun and casual, and if anyone tries to pry into sensitive areas treat it as a red flag.
Watch out for scams and frauds
Chem does not verify user identities or the statements they make about themselves, so people may misrepresent themselves or their intentions. Before meeting anyone, take your time getting to know them. Chatting, watching their other samples, or having a phone or video call can help you decide whether you’re comfortable meeting them, but none of these steps can confirm who they are. Never send money or financial information to anyone you meet on the app, and report anyone who asks for these things.
Pick a public meeting place
The first time meeting anyone should be somewhere well-populated, ideally a business like a bar or coffee shop with staff you can alert if anything feels off. If you meet somewhere outside like a park, make sure it's in the daytime with plenty of people around.
Share plans with someone you trust
Tell a friend or family member your plans, including who you're meeting, when, and where. Keep your phone charged and on your person — you can even share your live location with them.
Know how you're getting there and back
Use a reliable transportation method — driving, rideshare, or public transit — to get to and from wherever you're meeting. Remember you can always leave for any reason and you don't owe an explanation.
Trust your instincts
If someone makes you feel uncomfortable it's okay to excuse yourself, cancel, or stop responding to them. Don't second guess yourself when it comes to safety. If you believe you are in danger, first contact local law enforcement, then report the user.
Use the safety features
We allow you to unmatch, block, and report other users for a reason. If anyone gives you a bad experience, alerting us helps to keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone. Don't hesitate to report deceptive or harmful behaviors.
