Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Chem Dating, Inc. ("Chem," "we," or "us") collects, uses, and discloses personal information through the Chem mobile application, chemdating.com, and related services and communications (the "Platform"), and the choices and rights you may have. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings in our Terms of Use, available in the app and at chemdating.com (the "Terms").

Who This Covers. Chem is an asynchronous video app for adults seeking dating or friendship connections. This Privacy Policy covers people who create an account or use the Platform ("members" or "you"), visitors to our website (including people who join our waitlist), and anyone else who communicates with us. Schedule 1 (U.S. State Privacy Notice) contains additional information for residents of certain states and controls over the body of this Privacy Policy as to the information it covers.

Please Remember That Your Profile Is Visible to Others. Any member may be able to view your videos and the information shown with them. When your videos appear in the feed, other members can see your first name and age, and, if you choose to add them, your pronouns, job title, and neighborhood. Members you match with can also see your profile page, including your bio and other videos. Messages you send are delivered to and can be seen by their recipients. Think carefully about what you share, including in your videos, because we cannot control what other members do with information you share with them.

Changes. We may update this Privacy Policy and will post the new version with a new "Last Updated" date. We will notify you of material changes by email, in-app notice, or other reasonable means before they take effect, or obtain consent where law requires.

Types of Personal Information Collected Through the Platform

We collect:

  • Information you provide, such as your first name, date of birth and age, email address (which we receive from Apple or Google when you sign in), profile photo, your gender and the gender(s) you are interested in (which you select as pronoun choices), the age range and distance settings you choose, whether you are interested in dating, friendship, or both, any pronouns you choose to display on your profile, and optional profile details you choose to add, such as a short bio, job title, and neighborhood. We also collect your communications with us, including support requests and reports about other members, and the email address you provide if you join our waitlist on our website.
  • Videos and other content you create, such as the videos you record through the Platform (which include your image, likeness, voice, and anything else you choose to show or say, along with any prompt you select and any touch-up filter you apply), likes, matches (including whether a match is a dating or friendship match and any "open to more" selections), and the content of messages you send and receive ("User Content").
  • Location information, including your precise location (latitude and longitude), if you allow it through your device's location permissions, which we use to determine whether other members are within your distance setting and to rank the profiles we show you. We do not show your precise location to other members.
  • Automatically collected information, such as device identifiers, device model and operating system, app version, IP address, push notification tokens, crash and performance logs, features used, screens viewed, and dates and times of activity, collected through our app, software development kits ("SDKs"), cookies, and similar technologies.
  • Information from other sources, such as other members (for example, when they report you or message you), Apple or Google when you use them to sign in (such as your name and email address), and service providers that help us operate, secure, and protect the Platform.
  • Inferences we draw from the above, such as which members you may be interested in based on your preferences and activity.

Sensitive Information. Some information we collect may be considered sensitive under applicable law, including your precise geolocation, the contents of your messages, and the gender(s) you are interested in, which may reveal or allow others to infer your sexual orientation. We ask for your consent before collecting precise geolocation and before processing information that may reveal your sexual orientation, where law requires. We use sensitive information only to provide the Platform and the features you request, to keep the Platform safe and secure, and as law permits, and not to infer characteristics about you for advertising or to sell or share it. We do not ask for your religion, ethnicity, or health information. Please do not include this or other sensitive information in your profile, videos, or messages unless you want other members to see it.

No Biometric Information. Chem does not collect, capture, store, or use biometric identifiers or biometric information, including face geometry, face templates, voiceprints, or scans of hand or fingerprint. We do not use facial recognition technology, do not analyze your videos to identify you or to estimate your age or other characteristics, and do not use facial features or other biometric characteristics to match, rank, or recommend members. Any touch-up filter in our video recorder adjusts settings such as brightness and contrast uniformly across the entire frame and does not detect, map, or track facial features. If we introduce a feature that uses facial features or other biometric information (such as interactive filters that track facial landmarks), we will update this Privacy Policy and, before collecting any biometric information, provide the notice and obtain the written consent that law requires.

Types of Uses of Personal Information

We use personal information to:

  • provide the Platform and Services, including creating and managing your account, building and displaying your profile, recording, uploading, processing, combining, storing, and streaming your videos, enabling video export, showing you in, and showing you members from, the dating and friendship feeds that match your settings, determining whether a match is a dating or friendship match, showing and ranking other members based on your preferences, location, and activity, and enabling likes, matches, and messaging;
  • keep the Platform and our members safe, including investigating reports, detecting and preventing fraud, spam, fake accounts, underage use, harassment, and other violations of our Terms and Community Guidelines, and enforcing our policies;
  • communicate with you, including push notifications about matches and messages (if you enable them), account and security notices, and support;
  • market Chem, including sending marketing emails to people who join our waitlist and, as described in the Terms, reposting content that members share outside the Platform and tag us in;
  • analyze and improve the Platform, including measuring usage, troubleshooting, improving how we rank and recommend profiles, and developing new features, and create aggregated or de-identified data, which we may use and disclose for any lawful purpose (we keep de-identified data in that form and do not attempt to re-identify it, except as law permits);
  • operate our business, including accounting, auditing, and tax reporting;
  • comply with law, respond to lawful requests from public authorities, enforce our rights, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and
  • for other purposes we describe when we collect the information or with your consent.

Automated Processing

We use automated systems to operate the Platform, including to filter the profiles and videos we show you based on gender preferences and to rank them based on factors such as distance and likes. We may use machine learning to improve these rankings based on preferences and activity on the Platform. We do not currently use automated tools to moderate content. We review reports manually. We do not use automated processing to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you (such as decisions about employment, credit, housing, insurance, education, or healthcare), and our automated systems do not use facial recognition or other biometric information.

How We Protect Personal Information

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, appropriate to the nature of the information and the risks involved, such as encryption in transit and at rest provided by our cloud service providers, and access controls that limit access to member videos and messages to our moderation team, who access them only to review reports and moderate the Platform. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee security. We will notify you and regulators of security incidents where law requires.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain personal information as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Platform, keep it safe, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, videos, conversations, and associated data from our active systems within 30 days. Your videos are deleted from our video delivery provider when you delete them or your account. Other account data may remain in a recoverable state with our cloud provider for up to 7 days, and residual copies in our service providers' backup and replication systems are then permanently deleted on their standard schedules (for our cloud provider, within 180 days). We do not access or use those residual copies except as needed to restore our systems or as law requires. We keep limited records related to reported or suspended accounts and content, as described below. Our standard periods are:

Account and profile information
Retention: While your account is active, then deleted within 30 days after you delete your account

Videos
Retention: Until you delete them or your account, then deleted from our video delivery provider

Messages
Retention: Until you or we delete your account; when either participant deletes their account, the entire conversation is deleted for both participants

Records related to reported or suspended accounts and content
Retention: Up to 5 years after the report or suspension, to protect members and prevent suspended members from returning

Communications with us
Retention: 3 years after our last communication

Waitlist information
Retention: Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it

App analytics and logs
Retention: 14 months

Periods may be extended to resolve disputes, comply with legal holds, or as law requires. When we no longer need information, we delete or de-identify it, isolating any backup copies from further processing until deletion.

Types of Sharing or Disclosures of Personal Information

We disclose personal information:

  • to other members, as you direct when you use the Platform. Your videos and the information shown with them can be viewed by other members, your profile page can be viewed by your matches, and your messages are delivered to the members you send them to;
  • to the public, if you choose, when you export your videos and share them outside the Platform, and when we repost content you have shared and tagged us in, as described in the Terms;
  • to service providers that process it on our behalf under contractual restrictions, including Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage for Firebase, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Cloud Messaging, for account authentication, data storage, server processing, and push notifications), Cloudflare (Cloudflare Stream, for video storage and delivery), Squarespace (website hosting and our waitlist), analytics providers, and professional advisors. When you sign in with Apple or Google, they also process your information under their own privacy policies;
  • for legal and safety reasons, if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request (including reporting apparent child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children), enforce our agreements, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Chem, our members, or others, including to prevent fraud or respond to an emergency involving a risk of death or serious physical injury;
  • in business transfers, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or asset sale, including during due diligence, subject to confidentiality protections; and
  • with your consent or at your direction.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising. We do not show third-party advertising on the Platform. We may also disclose aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably identify you for any lawful purpose.

Cookies, SDKs, and Analytics

Our website, hosted by Squarespace, uses cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary (such as security and site functionality) and, if enabled, analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Our app uses SDKs to authenticate members, deliver push notifications, and diagnose problems, and we may use product analytics tools to understand how the app is used and improve it. We do not use these technologies for targeted advertising.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings, and can limit certain app tracking through your device settings. Some features may not work without these technologies. Where law requires, we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a valid opt-out request for that browser or device. We do not respond to other Do Not Track signals.

Third-Party Links and Services

Third-party websites and services linked to or integrated with the Platform (including app stores, Apple and Google sign-in, and any social media service where you share exported videos) are governed by their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.

Your Choices

You can update your profile and preferences, choose whether to display your pronouns, job title, and neighborhood, delete individual videos, and adjust notification settings in the app. You can stop the app from collecting precise location information through your device's location settings, though this may limit features that show members nearby. You can report any profile, video, or message, and block members you have matched with. You can turn off push notifications in your device settings. We do not send marketing emails to the email address associated with your account. If you joined our waitlist, you can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email. You can delete your account at any time in the app's account settings, on our website, or by emailing privacy@chemdating.com.

Your Data Protection Rights

Depending on where you live, and subject to exceptions, you may have the right to confirm whether we process your personal information, access and obtain a portable copy of it, correct it, delete it, opt out of its sale, sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, targeted advertising, and certain profiling, limit or withdraw consent to the processing of sensitive information, and obtain a list of third parties to which we have disclosed it (where law provides). Schedule 1 describes rights under specific state laws.

To make a request, email privacy@chemdating.com from the email address associated with your account. We will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before acting on access, correction, or deletion requests. Authorized agents may submit requests where law permits, and we may require proof of authorization and direct verification from you. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision or emailing privacy@chemdating.com with the subject "Privacy Request Appeal" within a reasonable time after our decision, and we will respond within the time law requires, after which you may contact your state attorney general. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights, although some requests (such as deleting your information) will mean we can no longer provide the Platform to you.

Children's Privacy

The Platform is only for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and if we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will terminate it and delete their personal information. Contact privacy@chemdating.com or report the account in the app if you believe someone under 18 is using the Platform.

Users Outside the United States

The Platform is intended only for users in the United States. Chem is based in the United States, and we store and process personal information primarily in the United States. Our service providers may also process or store personal information in other countries where they or their subprocessors maintain facilities, including through networks that deliver video content globally. If you access the Platform from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative, and your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than where you live.
